RE: Grapevine Trany Tempature

I've driven that freeway since learning how to drive. My 06' Dodge temps ran around 220 for the peak section of the climb and the F350 is about the same. I don't think 210-230 is a big deal for a short period. I think your fine.

For KZ Inferno Owners

From a RV-Recalls......................... KZRV is recalling 419 MY 2008 Inferno fifth wheel toy hauler trailers equipped with Lippert suspension hangers. These suspension hangers may be at risk of premature wear or failure. This could result in the unit exhibiting unusual body lean, poor handling while being towed, excessive tire wear, and/or failure without prior warning. Dealers will inspect and reinforce the suspension hangers. The recall is expected to begin during August 2008. Owners may contact KZRV at 866-524-7821. 08V-307

RE: What are the parameters of using OD?

Get a trany temp gauge, that will tell you everything you need to know. I think you'll be amazed at what you think is fine and the gauge is telling you something else.

RE: How to make rear door a porch????

No movement at all, or very little. I only install the eye bolt thru my door when using the door as a patio, and I only hand tighten the nut underneath, thats all that needed. I made a cork plug to put in the hole when not used with a cap on the outside, you can't see a hole.

RE: Water filter

I use one of the better filters that sold at Camping World. I got tired of messing with it every time during setup and takedown, so I plumbed it inline behind the hook up spot inside our basement storage compartment. I had the room and it's out of the way. I just know it's there doing it's job.

RE: Towing TH with Mega Cab

As I said in your other thread in the Towing section. I think I mite have been one of the few guys towing heavy with a Mega Cab SRW truck. If all you want to know is how it towed, It towed the trailer fine. But I was on the ragged edge and maxing all the truck specs. I did it, I never really liked being that close and over the specs, and as soon as I was able to buy a larger truck I did. I now have the proper truck to pull the trailer we have with room to spare.

RE: Towing with Dodge Mega Cab

I did it for a year. Although it was not the perfect setup I put over 20,000 miles on the road with this setup. I was maxing out all of the truck specs. I love the truck and the Dodge is a very capable tow rig, but Dodge rate's them very low for towing. They are built much lighter than a Ford so I see why they are lower rated for towing. You will more than likely need a slider hitch; I went with the SuperGlide 18K and what a great hitch it is, well worth the money. I also install an exhaust brake, another great feature for towing. On being over weight, well I said the same thing (everybody else is doing it too). But really, in the back of my mind it was always there, and it always bothered me. I worried about what would happen in the event of an accident, and if a lawsuit happened, and I was truly at fault. All things to think about, along with thinking about running a high weight trailer with high pin weight on a SRW truck and then have a blowout. I never wanted to see how that would all come out, not good I bet in the wrong place at the right time. It's all your choice. If you do go that route, I would say have the best tires, the brakes in tip top shape, and a perfect running truck. For me personally, I just couldn't do it anymore and went to a dually capable of towing what trailer we have and then some. I still think the Dodge Mega Cab is a great tow rig. I think a good setup would be to stay under 21,000 GCW, and a max pin weight of 2600lbs. Good luck on your choice, By the way I still have the Dodge and won't let it go.............just encase :B http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e24/jakridge1/06MegaCabTH.jpg width=640 Moderator edit to re-size picture to forum limit of 640px maximum.

RE: mileage with a diesel

This is a guess because I haven't weighed my current setup, but I know my mileage. I'd say a total GCVW of 23,000 while towing, I get 10 mpg I'd say a total GVW of 8,800 while empty, I get 10 mpg F-350 DRW 4.30 gears, auto trans Old setup (Dodge 3500 SRW auto trans, 3.73 gears) Towing 11 mpg Empty 20 mpg Better fuel mileage out of the old truck but not the perfect combined setup.

RE: Cyclone 3950 & SRW F 350 ?

I pulled our 15,000lbs + TH for a year with a SRW truck. I never really felt good about it, but did it. I was right at max on all the trucks specs. I had every thing you could get to make the truck a better hauler, (airbags, aftermarket rear diff. and trans pan covers, exhaust brake, full gauge package, and tuner chip). I now have a dually and I can tell you there's no comparison. The dually is way more stable. It's pulling the trailer, not the trailer driving the truck. If you have the resources to get a new truck, get the DRW larger truck. You'll suffer a little on fuel mileage but on the other hand you'll have the proper truck to pull a trailer that size.

RE: RAM 3500 mega cab dually to pull 5th wheel??

When I was looking at a new dually as I recall the tow cap's. on the Dodge MC were around 23,000 GCVW, my SRW MegaCab 4x4 weighed in at a hair over 7500lbs and you could have a pin weight around 3000lbs +/- 100lbs. I still have my MegaCab SRW truck which has become the wifes. And I did have to have a slide hitch. We had the Superglide which is now sold. Wish I would have just kept it as a back up. I am not loyal to any one manufacture, it's either cost or what I like at the time. The MagaCab Dodge is a fine truck.

RE: Class A pusher to fifth wheel.

Although we don't have or ever have owned a MH, we travel 80% of the time with our good friends that have a top of the line Monaco MH. We have both talked extensively on this subject and I find it's going to come down to money IMO. If I had unlimited money or at least more of it to spend on RVing I think I'd go to a MH. I don't think there is a real big work savings in the MH to setup vs. a 5ver. If you pull a small car like he does everywhere we end up taking about the same amount of time to setup and takedown. I do admit he can do it way faster if the toad is not behind him. His MH is equipped with fully auto leveling, elec. awnings; fully factory installed 2000watt inverter and 4 6v GC battery bank and backup camera. On most 5vers these will all be major upgrades or need to be installed aftermarket. The inside of the rigs are all the same basically. The upscale 5vers can have every bit as nice of interior as any MH, dollar per dollar. But you will need a stout TV to pull any large 38-40ft 5ver. If you’re looking at a F450 you got pretty much all you need. If you’re at a camping area with hookups we all need to hookup to water-elec, and sewer if available, so no big time savings there. Hooking up & unhooking and leveling between ours is the difference. If we are in a somewhat unleveled camping area I need to do more work to get side to side leveling taken care of, where he just hits a button. An auto level system in 5vers are nice but you still need to make sure you don’t be over doing the frame twisting. For my friend, he has no need in a large truck and doesn't want one, even though the cost of one setting like his MH when not in use are about the same. He says he fills way more comfortable setting in the rig itself, like he says…..…I just can’t see having this big monster hanging over my head hooked to the bed of a pickup. As far as storage room, well these newer 5vers have some serious compartment space too. And if you go to a Toy hauler you have tons of it. It's a real toss up if you have the money to spend. I wonder at times if I’d only like to change to a MH because I hate stopping to let the little wife go tinkle. Now there is a big benefit of a MH :B Rolling costs. His MH 38ft $200K +/-, toad-Honda Pilot $30K +/- = $230K Our TH 38ft $55K +/-, TV F350 DRW $50K +/- + misc. upgrades $5K = $110K. Total cost are what stand out big time to me.

RE: Where to go for Labor day?

Hey Kim, (BrnEyzR1) how about Mammoth Lake Mary? Matt, his wife and kids are heading there tomorrow. It's a drive though. I'm seriously thinking about. Camp spots are first come first serve. I've never been there but Matt has and said it really nice there.
